Kids. How innocent?!

Under: Uncategorized @ 4:05 pm on Friday, 04.14.06

This week we’ve had amazing weather … Beautiful for a walk, bike ride, and even drawing on the sidewalk! Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, my sister decided to take the kids out around the block on their bikes …before we left, she told the kids to use the bathroom so that we wouldn’t have to come back to the house just for that. We got ready, and left…we didn’t even reach the end of the block when Omar decided that he wanted to use to the bathroom. Jeneen and Amoonah had caught a glimpse of their school mates on the opposite side of the block, drawing with colored chalk. They asked their mom if they can join them.

As my sister walked Omar back to the house, Jeneen and Amoonah crossed the street (yep! without looking.) to join their school mates. I asked my sister if she’s okay with the girls staying out on their own. She was fine with it, but suggested I keep an eye on them in case they try to cross the street without looking again and perhaps take a walk over there and just observe what they’re drawing/writing. She said ”just look to see what type of stuff they are writing, watch there’ll be ‘I love John!’ or something of such! “ …  I kept walking, pushing Sara in her stroller … She too was enjoying the weather.

I got to the other side of the street and said hi to the girls! they were too busy drawing and writing that they didn’t even look up as they returned my greeting! I started reading what was written on the sidewalk. I didn’t want to seem intrusive, so I told the girls that I was just merely interested in their work and asked if I can take a few seconds to read?  They giggled as they simutaneously said “sure!”

“Green and Purple are f’in awesome colors!”

O k a y, i said to myself!

I stepped over a few feet to the left:

“Brian is so hot!” I asked if Brian was in their class. They laughed sounding surprised! I guess Brian is a band member of some sort! God, I felt so old

A few steps over:

“You and me baby ain’t nothing but mamals, so let’s do it like they do on the Discovery Channel!”

Honeslty, I was very shocked! this is even worst than ‘I love John!’ … I asked oh, what’s this girls? Looking shy Jessica replied: ‘oh, it’s. just. music lyrics!’ I said: “You girls listen to this type of music?”  Biata chuckled: “It’s for older people but we listen to it anyway.”

Allright! I asked: “Did you guys learn about mamals yet?” Jessica said: “Yeah, we talked about it a bit last year.”

These are 3rd graders!
