I’m convinced I was an accident. My brother and sisters have 1 or 2yrs diffence between them.. I on the otherhand, came 6 whole yrs later!!
Ok, I know that wasn’t the point so going back to the words of Dr. Warren, how can God be your identity, your purpose and your significance?? Believers don’t all share the same identity, and belief in God or lack of it doesn’t determine your purpose and certainly shouldn’t determine your significance.
Sometimes when people start talking about spirituality they become too wrapped up in emotions and so, don’t realise the implications of their words… or perhaps they do but don’t see the lack of logic in them.

Rihab, I don’t see it the way you do…I see that we’re brought into this world for a purpose, a reason and we should be reminded of the fact that the day will come in which we will face God and be accountable for the type of things we did in this life!

Accountability in another life is a different topic altogether, however, my point was that there is a conceptual flaw in stating that faith is the definition of one’s identity, purpose and significance. Our identities are far more complex than to be encompassed within our faith; faith is part of our identity and not our entire identity.
As for purpose, again the definition of purpose varies from one person to another, to state that belief in God is humanity’s purpose then you are assuming that all of humanity believes in God, furthermore, you are assuming that they all believe in Islam - which is the only religion that explicitly states faith as man’s purpose. Now, although that may be the purpose of life for a quarter of the planet but it’s not for the vast majority, and so stating that God is where we “discover” our purpose makes great idyllic talk but has nothing to do with reality.
Finally, with regard to “significance”, well, it’s almost criminal to suggest that man’s significance can only be known through finding God, so what about those who don’t even recognise the existence of a God, does it mean that they are unappreciative of the importance of human life??

I do not see it as a different topic all together. I see it very relevant to what the author says. Our purpose is to believe, worship, lead virtuous lives and simply live.

Is there a set definition of what a “virtuous life” is?
Our purpose is to live life in the best way we see fit. The “best way we see fit” part varies from one individual to another hence the reason why conflict in interests arise and competition exists.
