Trying to Be +

Under: What I Love @ 12:27 am on Saturday, 04.15.06

Though I wash my face several times through out the day, my makeup - particulary eye makeup - doesn’t come off, thank God for waterproof mascara!

I love the end of the day…and I love getting ready for bed. However, the worst part about it is having to remove my eye makeup …eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara! not done yet… then comes clarifying lotion, followed by moisturizing lotion … It’s such a task that I love hating! sometimes I just skip it all together without feeling the slightest of guilt, just like tonight!

Good Night!

Kids. How innocent?!

Under: Uncategorized @ 4:05 pm on Friday, 04.14.06

This week we’ve had amazing weather … Beautiful for a walk, bike ride, and even drawing on the sidewalk! Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, my sister decided to take the kids out around the block on their bikes …before we left, she told the kids to use the bathroom so that we wouldn’t have to come back to the house just for that. We got ready, and left…we didn’t even reach the end of the block when Omar decided that he wanted to use to the bathroom. Jeneen and Amoonah had caught a glimpse of their school mates on the opposite side of the block, drawing with colored chalk. They asked their mom if they can join them.

As my sister walked Omar back to the house, Jeneen and Amoonah crossed the street (yep! without looking.) to join their school mates. I asked my sister if she’s okay with the girls staying out on their own. She was fine with it, but suggested I keep an eye on them in case they try to cross the street without looking again and perhaps take a walk over there and just observe what they’re drawing/writing. She said ”just look to see what type of stuff they are writing, watch there’ll be ‘I love John!’ or something of such! “ …  I kept walking, pushing Sara in her stroller … She too was enjoying the weather.

Under: Uncategorized, What I Love @ 9:35 am on Friday, 04.14.06

Seriously, I am not always pissed off at the entire world nor am I a hater! I’ve even decided to put up a ‘Things I Love’ category which will definitely be coming soon! Here is a brief list of things I totally love! (they are not in any particular order)

Shoes, oh shoes!

My Mommy, even though she nags sometimes, she is still so understanding and I can talk to her about anything and everything!

My Daddy’s good (well it’s more of laid back) mood - oh how much I adore that … you see, it’s a very rare commodity :P

My Family,(mother, father, sisters (some of which -Ranya!- are uptight) and brother!) I love you, you love me (I know you do!) … we’re a happy family! believe it or not, we truly are not dysfunctional!

And the Big Problem is…

Under: How Outrageous @ 10:49 am on Thursday, 04.13.06

Rude, inconsiderate, insensitive people get on my last nerve! And the big problem is the world is saturated with such people…we have to deal with them every single day at least twice a day. Either be it in the office, on the road or wherever!

First Muslim sorority

Under: Around The World, Uncategorized @ 10:35 pm on Tuesday, 04.11.06

For those into all this sorority stuff minus all the ‘daring’ things involved, this will work perfectly…something for everyone, as they say!

First Muslim sorority hopes to form chapters across USA

Christine Ortiz slips quietly from the Muslim prayer room on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and into a group of squealing young women. Some of them are Ortiz’s Muslim sisters, the undergraduate pals who embraced her when she converted to Islam from her family’s Roman Catholicism.

Less than a year after she graduated from MIT, Ortiz, 23, has returned to campus on a chilly night to help introduce them to a new concept in Muslim sisterhood: the first Muslim-oriented sorority, Gamma Gamma Chi.

Still Holding On…

Under: Random Thoughts @ 8:57 pm on Tuesday, 04.11.06

Something I came across really made me think of how true it is…Alice wrote about the Lost Soul… The old soul enjoyed a happy life, surrounded by a strong family, faithful friends and children. In reflection and honesty - she continues - prayer was a part of the old soul’s daily life. “Age brought question to the old soul’s mind, which has no answers. It was all based on faith. In sum and substance, you believed in God or you did not. It was easy to believe in God who showered blessings upon some lives,” but how is one to believe when very young children suffer with cancer - as one example?!

Personally, I strongly believe this comes down to how strong the faith we have within is. A child’s death, a young man’s terminal illness, wars, diseases, trying times, failures and other miseries are just trials that should strengthen our faith. However, as Alice points out, for many these are reasons that lead them to stop believing. Their faith was challenged and [unfortunately] failed.

“The heart breaking grief of a loved one’s young death cast a fearful, darkness over the old soul, a darkness and disbelief that pervaded the old soul’s life, like forceful tentacles of a deep-sea creature trying to suck life away.”

“The belief, the prayer was gone…washed away as simply as words on a chalkboard. The old soul knows  shame, for the fortitude of faith was never practiced. The old soul is now a lost soul…longing to find the way back home!”

This year’s Prize goes to…

Architecture (so was Drama) was one of the majors I had in mind when I started college, but I never really pursued it! Anyway, this year’s Pritzker Prize for Architecture goes to Paulo Mendes da Rocha.

In six decades of work, the Brazilian architect has been creating “honest” buildings, according to the Pritzker jury. His projects include high-rises made of concrete, stadiums of concrete, houses –- even his own –- of concrete, and a chapel in — you guessed it — concrete.

Brazil was not rich and it lacked highly trained construction workers, so da Rocha created simple buildings with simple forms in the simplest of materials. Called “Brazilian Brutalist,” it’s a modernist style for a new-world country.

But architecture is not about style, da Rocha says.

“Architecture is a human endeavor inspired by the nature all around us,” he says. “We must transform nature; fuse science, art and technology into a sublime statement of human dignity.”

Rallies across U.S. call for illegal immigrant rights

Under: Around The World, How Outrageous @ 9:00 am on Tuesday, 04.11.06

Hundreds of thousands of protesters turned out Monday in small towns and big cities across the United States, demanding that undocumented immigrants get a chance to live the American dream.

Illegal?! Rights? A chance to live the American dream? I don’t think so! Anyone who is out of status, anyone who is illegal should be sent to where they came from. Deported. The End!

The Eyes That Ruin Us?!

Under: Random Thoughts @ 8:22 am on Saturday, 04.8.06

The eyes of other people are the eyes that ruin us. If all but myself were blind, I should not want neither fine clothes, fine houses, nor fine furniture.
– Benjamin Franklin –
So true … I truly believe that we can have a greater sense of inner peace - peace of mind- if we do the things we do because we want to do them for ourselves rather than for others…
