Diamonds are reffered to as stones, yet there is much difference here.
I understood your quotation as the following :You can easily lose very valuable perons if you dont give them enough attention and care and scatter your concentration on other less valuable people ( stones )
It is close to the English Proverb : to cast pearls before swines : giving valuable things to those who do not appreciate it : they will reject and disvalue them.
I lost someday a ‘ jewel ‘ because I invested much in what I thought was a jewel, but it turned out to be another stone, just like the many stones we see daily.
I cannot forgive myself since then
