Gaza - a Graveyard

Under: Around The World, Palestine @ 10:15 pm on Tuesday, 07.11.06

Watching coverage - some of which live - on Palestine TV of the latest israeli strike on a residential home in Sheik Radwan neighborhood in Gaza that killed 5 and left more than 15 injured is emotionally and mentally draining… Bodies were being pulled from under the rubble …some unidentified body parts, too… Some men were pushing the cameras away asking news crews not to air anything…Very graphic images … make your stomache turn and your heart bleed…these are bodies of young children, men and women…A family that once was is no longer… But you know, AP reported that the israeli military said it attacked the house because it was a “meeting place for terrorists” who were planning attacks and rocket launches…And that reason will always qualify as a justification and israel will get away with its continued atrocities, as always…and as Azmi Bishara writes: But the real “infrastructure of terrorism” is not to be found in that poverty-stricken collection of slums they call Gaza. The real infrastructure of terrorism is the Israeli occupation and Israeli occupation policy.

Watching footage of the injured being rushed to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza seemed hopeless…the number of the injured had already out-numberd the number of available beds…and with shortage in medicine and medical supplies how are they being treated anyway?

What’s ironically sad is Aljazeera’s way of reporting this:

“At least five people have been killed and 15 wounded in an explosion that destroyed the house of a Hamas member, as Israeli tanks and troops pushed into the central Gaza Strip.”

“The house is in the Sheik Radwan neighbourhood of the city, a known Hamas stronghold.”

Using Hamas member blatantly hints justification of the strike that killed children, women and men.

“From the force of the blast, the two-storey house belonging to Hamas member Muhammad al-Salmiah, collapsed, burying men, women and children under the rubble.” Aljazeera’s Western Media style is very disgusting. How many times does the word Hamas have to be mentioned in the same article, reporting the same incident?

A side note: his name is not Mohammed. Palestine TV reported it as Dr. Nabil Al-Salmiah.

”The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have continued their excessive offensive against Palestinian civilians and property in the Gaza Strip. The total number of deaths since the beginning of the IOF incursion into the Strip has reached 57, while the number of injuries stands at 121, including 31 children. Further, 103 houses have been damaged, 14 of which were totally destroyed. 265 dunums of agricultural lands have been leveled. In addition, 33 patients who underwent medical treatment in Egypt are struck inside the building of Refah Terminal. 5 patients were sent back to Egyptian hospitals due to the deterioration of their health conditions, while an elderly man, Fahmi Dawood, 70, and a 16-year-old child, Mohammed Shorrab died due to the closure of the terminal. Further, 939 evacuated Palestinians are now staying in two UNRWA schools which are being used as shelters while 190 families have approached these schools to receive food supplies, since the IOF have maintained the tight siege on Al Shouka area, in eastern Rafah, cutting all humanitarian supplies from the area. And counting!
