Wedding at the Wall
Ramallah- Ma’an- More than 26 demonstrators, including a bride on her wedding day, were injured in the West Bank village of Bil’in on Friday afternoon. Every Friday, Palestinian and international peace activists gather in Bil’in, a village west of Ramallah, to protest against the illegal separation wall being built through the village’s lands.
On 14 July, groom Rasmi Mansour Aziz from Bil’in, and bride Iman Hammad, an American citizen with Gazan origins, chose to hold their wedding ceremony at the wall as part of Bil’in’s weekly protest. The Israeli soldiers showed no respect for the wedding and started attacking everybody with batons, rubber bullets and tear gas.
Twenty-six of the demonstrators, including the bride, and five journalists, were left injured. Among the injured journalists were Muhammad Mheisen, a Reuters photographer; Abbas Al Momeny, an AP photographer and Fadi Al ‘Arori, a Ma’an photographer. Moreover, an ambulance was also hit. After the rally ended, Israeli forces invaded the village where they confronted heavy resistance.
Quite a unique and very patriotic wedding! Wishing Iman, Muhammad, Abbas, and Fadi a speedy recovery and congratulations to the Bride & Groom!
