What is it?

Alright…perhaps I can probably understand people’s reasons for being so reluctant donating through organizations, however these non-profit organizations are channels that have been established - some of which for over 30 years - to help facilitate the transfer process. These are non-proft organizations whose mission is to provide social, educational and most importantly humanitarian aid to less privileged socieites. These organizations, more often than not, have a publicly open financial records - giving anyone interested in donating through them access. Yet so many people out there still refuse to believe the good intentions. Why is it that we have so little faith - if any - in our organizations?

Or is that so many of us have our priorities in life completely screwed up?

Why is it that we lack trust in each other? In our communities? In our social organizations? In our charitable organizations?

Why is it that when I approach individuals in efforts to collecting funds for a clearly spelled out cause the response is almost always negative?

I attended a little session a few days ago in which donations for that night were collected on behalf of a non religious, non political, non-profit organization. Donations will be going to either educational fundings for Palestinian college students or for Orphans specifically in either Palestine or Lebanon…It was left entirely to the people to earmark their donations - meaning that the money is guaranteed to go directly to where ever they choose. Overall, the response was good, but one is always bound to hear a few sarcastic comments here and there…some of which: ‘Well, I am not sure I feel comfortable giving money out not knowing where it might end up.” “Probably someone will be driving a new Mercedes with that money, I’d rather be the one giving it away…this way I’ll be very sure of where it [the money] ended up.”

Believe it, sponsoring an orphan for just ONE dollar a day is not going to deflate your bank account. Think of each dollar you give as a dollar gained. That dollar will make a positive difference in a child’s life… And, it would be ‘nice’ if, people have a bit of faith in people and organizations who put time, effort and dedication into spreading good deeds thousands of miles away!

The reason, I think, is not skepticism for ” skeptical” people are hardly ever ask any questions or inquire or double checking the organization or its officers before they make a donation. They normally don’t do any of that.

Therefore I think such ” skeptical” people are not interested to give a dime to begin with.
people as such,I think, would not mind or perhaps eager to trade places. In that I mean trading their ancestral home in some village in Palestine with those who have set their gaze on it for a long time- in exchange with a nice home in the suburbs. Welcome to America.

Hey Ali, it’s been a long time..no hear…no see!(thankfully :P)

I guess you’re relatively right…perhaps these people are not interested in donating at all! which is really sad because I am sure they’re very capable…but what can one do when the majority of the people have their priorities in life completely screwed up!
