If you strongly defend a point, a way, a tradition, a certain lifestyle why don’t you apply it to your life first then talk about it as much as you want. Otherwise, please spare me what is truly nothing but pure bullshit! They talk about women who dress provactively, yet will drool at the thought of one…they talk about women who stay out late, yet don’t mind spending the night with those same women…they talk about women who engage in pre-marital relations, yet don’t mind being a big part of the ‘fun…’  Hypocrites get on my nerves!

I completely agree.

LoL… It’s really normal to love something that is really not good for you. You might know how bad those extra calories are when you eat your favorite arteries clogging fries. Yet you enjoy them nonetheless.

I second on that!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with you… I hate such MEN

By the way, with the same reasoning, a Man can never talk about hijab.

Maybe I’m missing a “specific” point you’re making, can you help me out getting it?

Rihab

12.27.06 @ 2:30 am

hmmm… true, but that generally makes the majority of Arabs hypocrites, and I think explains why I’d rather not go for them :F. I said Arabs, as opposed to Arab men, because I think the same hypocrisy exists in Arab women who find it hard to satisfy cultural/religious requirements whilst living their life in the way they want to.

Rihab, I loved your point, I kind of share it from the cup half full side. As in, you can believe in something and know it’s right, but not be able or want to do it

Rihab

12.27.06 @ 3:40 am

Qwaider, I think what people believe in to be “right”, is to them, more of an ideal rather than something realistic that they think should be followed… otherwise, there’d be nothing stopping them from following it since it’s simply a question of will. I think each person has their own definition of what is acceptable and what is not and we live our lives accordingly, the level of religious/cultural pretence one shows depends on how obligated he/she feel towards each.

Dar

Well , it is really annoying to hear from someone telling you to do things that he/she doesnt do it in the first place ………… BUT in the same time that doesnt change whats true and right , you do it for yourself , not for the others to stop criticizing you . And dont let that affect your perception about the idea itself cuz it was said by some of those ppl !!!

CheeerZ!

I don’t think Iman is talking about guilty pleasures here. I think she’s talking about the idea of preaching a certain idea or practice and not doing a single thing in your life that actually encourages it on the ground but doing the opposite. That is hypocricy, and if not, then at best it can only be a sign of weakness in one’s character, which is something that goes naturally with one being a hypocrite.

Look Iman, listen to Rihab, most Arab men are hypocrites, and I say this as an Arab man, and I don’t think I can even claim not to be a hypocrite myself.

it;s not those who speak of female modesty and then drool over those dressed provocativley.. if they hadnt drooled over those dressed provocatively, why would women need to dres modestly in the first place!

No, it is those who wish women to dress modestly, yet are more attentive/helpful to the provocative one. I think that women who use their sexuality and attractiveness can sometimes get things done easier than the modest more forthright woman. That annoys me.

I think that the person should never be judgmental under any circumstances. S/he should list the pros and the cons regarding whatever it is they are talking about and just leave it like that without rendering a verdict on it.

Ola

12.27.06 @ 11:00 am

Well, many many men are like that… it makes you grow distrustful sometimes, but the thing is that it everyone might seem as a hypocrite sometimes.. that doesn’t mean they are hypocrites in the heart or that they are bad

kerr

12.27.06 @ 12:13 pm

That is a generalization and is not fair. Stay away from those type of people. Using your logic, I think many women are full of gossip, nagg too much and so on….

Alright, so I read it again, and there is something that I totally agree on,
لا تنهى عن خلقٍ و تأتي بمثله عار عليك اذا فعلت عظيم

Yet, I don’t appreciate this being directed only to men Arab or otherwise.

PS, many men would never drool over scantly dressed woman, ,and would turn their away their heads. And wouldn’t do all of the above. Or allow it and practice it. I don’t know … I’m sorry to take too much space here

Iman

12.27.06 @ 8:44 pm

josi, why haven’t you returned my calls? are you blocking my number? I’ve been trying to call you for the past couple of days!

Qwaider, why did you automatically assume that this is linked to something you might have said somewhere out there?

PS, many men would never drool over scantly dressed woman, ,and would turn their away their heads. And wouldn’t do all of the above. Or allow it and practice it. I don’t know …

Some may not, but many will! and you do know!

I’m sorry to take too much space here

There is always plenty of space for you ideas, Q!

most Arab men are hypocrites, and I say this as an Arab man, and I don’t think I can even claim not to be a hypocrite myself.

Hamzeh, we went over this before… remember? you’re NOT like most men! lol

Ola, you’re right!

Nana, exactly..and hypocrisy and double standards coming from either men or women is something I absolutely abhor…

Hatem, What do you mean just leave it like that?

Kerry, Perhaps what you said is true to a certain degree… (by the way, did you win the other night?)

Rihab, I think most Arab men tend to be more of hypocrites than Arab women …

Arab men … arab men … arab men!!
Khalas … we get your point … we are all hypocrites…and we have double standards and all of that, I wish you were an Arab man and did things “the right way” only to find some lady who would go on criticizing arab men to death like that, and then try to convince her that the bunch of assholes she know don’t represent everyone … but who am I to know .. I’m one of the stupid arab men

Iman

12.28.06 @ 1:32 am

Qwaider, getting snippy… aren’t we?

wa7ad, if you read my initial post you will see that I didn’t make mention of what type of man I am referring to!

tinain, my only reference to ‘Arab man’ was in response to one comment made…

talat, count to ten…inhale, exhale…relax!

Finally, my favorite is the Arab man!

which number did you reach? still at one! take your time…

Hatem, What do you mean just leave it like that?

I mean if you classify someone as a hypocrite, as a liar, as cheater, or whatever, then that is the way they will always look and be-in your eyes. Why even bother doing anything to change them. Just explain the pros and cons of being a hypocrite, a liar, and just leave it like that.A) Don’t try to be judgemental B) Don’t attempt to change them. Why? Because they aren’t going to change.

Rihab

12.29.06 @ 8:36 am

Rihab, I think most Arab men tend to be more of hypocrites than Arab women

Not really, Arab women just have stricter social rules imposed on them and so they have less leeway to behave “badly”. A family’s honour, reputation etc. for the vast majority of Arab families hangs on the actions of their women and not their men, and so men can screw around as much as they want (at times I believe it’s half-expected of them) whereas women can’t. There’s a different standard of cultural/religious requirements expected of a woman, and the consequences of a woman not meeting them are far more severe… so if women can act hypocritically in such a case, I’m sure if we were to bring the standards into balance we’d find the level of hypocrisy pretty much equal.

Also, I don’t get how Arab men can be your favourite if they’re hypocrites?!

Iman

While some may be, others are not…which makes the latter group is my favorite!

Hey Rana, it’s been so long…where have you been? it’s okay though, I’m not complaining…my own sister has not returned my calls in a week, so I wont even begin to lay blame on you :P … hope you’re doing well… and hating men is a bit extreme! so reconsider :d
