- Why do I feel a bit out of place amongst girls from back home? my voice, even my dialect comes off as too…what’s the word? masculine perhaps… next to their soft spoken, sugar-coated words! :d

- I don’t know if this is a good thing or not, but when Ranya, Beesan, Maryam, Layla,(sisters) Jeneen, Amoonah (neices), Lilian, Sayeda (friends) see pretty shoes I come to mind! I like to tell myself that the keyword here is pretty.lol

- Sayeda - a long time ago - started calling me ‘Elaine’… from Seinfeld…she says my attitude, the way I express myself verbally and physically is just so Elaine! whatever…

- Three years later, some still cannot believe that I didn’t cry when I received my graduation gift…It wasn’t a maybach or an Omar, you know..ugh..accept the fact that (if I’m not PMS’ing or at a funeral) I’m not that emotional…I don’t cry at weddings…I don’t cry at the sound of good news…and I don’t cry watching ET…(I teared up a bit watching the Notebook but that’s a rare exception! see lilian habibti.lol., I AM human.)

- Rihab said: “I saw this on Aljazeera English ‘Your Views’ and thought about you: ‘Can we keep President Bush out of the Saddam execution discussion? Saddam was executed because it was the Will of Allah - nothing happens less it be the Will of Allah - it is written in the Koran. President Bush has no influence over Allah’s Will. Saddam is dead - Praise be to Allah! - dirkadirkamohammedjihad, Fort Bragg, USA.’” Although this is clearly a sarcastic reply, her rememberance is inspired by this and our quite often discussions of that particular subject!.right?! :d

- The feeling without it is SO liberating! Ahhh!

Nitey!

What was your graduation present??
When I was younger, I would cry at anything. If my brother so much as poked my arm, I’d burst into tears.
And I think I know what “it” is :p I think….hmm..

I never used to cry at things either. Then I had kids, now I cry at phone company commercials, pictures, almost anything. It is really an emotional rollercoaster. Oh, and I used to get the Elaine comparison a bit myself. Welcome to the club.

Don’t pay too much attention for what said about u:)
i think you appear as a tough girl but deeply inside you r so sensitive thinker:)

i liked it when u said: it was the Will of Allah - nothing happens less it be the Will of Allah >>
Bush was the reason that ALLAH caused it so that his will happened.

LOL, you know what, it’s true! I never realized it! People here do talk with a certain level of extreme softness.

Lets see you keep your tears at the sight of your first born :)

Frankly, many people exaggerate crying and tears, it’s more of an art, or good display of fake emotions at times…

I’m glad you don’t fake it ;)

i don’t know you , but am sure you’re not “masculine” but they are just too soft .

and NOT crying doesn’t mean that you’re not emotional , maybe you’re the kind of ppl who keep everything inside , and only show it on rare occasions .

LOL! Oh you guys stop making her feel better, “you’re not masculine, it’s just that everyone else is much softer”, it’s like telling a blind guy, oh you’re not blind it’s just that everyone has much clearer vision than you.

Iman, face it, you’re masculine, you need to fake more smiles, shed more tears, nag endlessly, go bipolar once a month and start calling your parents mammi and pappi.

Without fear of being labelled a sissy, I hereby make it known that I cried at end of ET. One of the first movies I remember going to the theater to watch and needless to say we were the last ones to leave. But yeah, that was a long time ago. I am a big boy now. No crying.

ALiaa, thanks for stopping by … and thanks  for the nice words…by the way, I was not the one who said that…it was some random comment on Aljazeera’s website.

Roba, see… it’s true…and you’re soft spoken when you speak arabic, too :d I heard you on your blog in that video…

Q, fixed…

Mohammad, you’re right..and yes you’re right again i only show it on rare occassions:)

The whole thing about masculinity in this post was triggered by a bad use of words by Iman.

You wanna know what I think? Based on knowing girls on both sides of the ocean, including you Iman.

Girls back home are always treated like girls and only start really being treated as women when they have kids and even then the only difference is that they are girls who are married with kids. I won’t exaggerate when I say I’ve seen men who had been married for 20+ years who still call their wives “ya benet”.

So, Iman and everyone else

what’s the word? masculine perhaps

Maybe the word is mature. Maybe they are the “girls back home” and you are the “woman from the US”.
