Yours against theirs

March 7, 2007 | Category: Chicago, Ugh!, Uncategorized

I abhor being in a situation in which it’s my word against theirs…Particularly if theirs is that of an authoritative one! Yesterday as I was driving home from work, I noticed something on my dashboard. I thought it was a flyer of some sort…it wasn’t. It was a ticket for ‘failure to pay parking fee.’ I am very very very positive that I paid the parking fee. I can contest the ticket, but I need proof of my payment. How am I supposed to prove it? The parking lot payment option only consists of a large group of numbered slots that one is able to insert a dollar in; in other words there are no agents…I parked in spot 341, I inserted a dollar in slot 341. I don’t have a receipt. And I refuse to pay 35$ for something I did not do. I’m going to contest it nonetheless; I’m interested in the outcome when I stand before the judge and demand they wave it because I’m telling the truth and nothing but the truth … Of course I wont mention the two times I didn’t pay because I was rushing to…actually never mind…this may be evidence used against me when I appear in court :D
Though this incident is very minute next to the on going injustice many people through out the world experience, it nevertheless serves as a reminder of how an ugly feeling it is!

When you stand before the judge tell him you want to pay this one for the two times you didn,t pay.

The best advice I can give you is: if you want the court proceedings to go your way then compliment the judge on what a nice gavel he has, or his authoritative charisma, or his radiant smile. But don’t be too obvious about it.

Wow! You have parking spots that take only ONE dollar!!? Nyyalkom!

If I were you, I’d just call the number on the back of the ticket, give them an earful. And tell them you’re not paying

I did that, and they didn’t bother me. These are not really traffic tickets that you get in a parking lot. And you can contest/ignore them

Thanks for your support, everyone , but I must say something here … examining the ticket more carefully, I realized that I inserted the dollar in the wrong slot :x

I’m sure they found 2 dollars in the 341 slot …you’d think they’d be ’smart’ enough to figure out that the extra dollars belongs in the 346 slot!

    It still feels awful!

So Iman, you were wrong. Is not time you get off your high horse :P and admit that you made a mistake? :P :D
