Things I’ve been putting off
for a while now due to many things – mainly busy at and with work…
— Grading my students’ 3 –page narrative essays; first assignment of the semester which was due back in August! Despite having a full time job, I’ve taken up teaching part time…either on weekends or nights. It worked perfectly fine with my previous job and though I switched jobs since the last time I taught, I did not think continuing with teaching would be a problem. However, the first week of the semester was almost hell. Work was extremely busy during that time and was expected to get even busier… trying to get to school on time was a great challenge…with the following classroom policy set by me what kind of example would I be setting coming to class late?! Attendance & Participation: This class revolves around class discussion and in-class writing activities. Your success in this class depends on your dedication to completing the assigned reading and coming to class each and every day with something to contribute to the class discussion. However, attendance is truly up to each student. The less frequently a student attends, the less he/she will gain from the course. Keep in mind that concepts discussed during class might affect the essays. Also keep in mind that in-class/informal points may not be made up for whatever reason (absence, tardiness, or early departure). I strongly encourage you to come to class and come on time.
I didn’t think I would be able to continue with this through out the semester. Too much demands from both jobs and though I see an immense reward in teaching, honestly alone it does not cover my bills at the end of the month! Not being able to fully commit and dedicate my time to the class and the 32 students, I felt it would be unfair to them for me to continue with the semester. I talked about my concerns with the Department Chair, he was very understanding. Having assigned the first assignment, it’s my responsibility to grade and return to the department. I will get to it this week! My students were a bit sad to see me not continue the semester and had so many questions about who will take over and if he/she will follow my syllabus, etc. I think, they might, just might have felt just a bit of comfort in me saying who ever may take over may not necessarily want you guys to write about the same topic I chose for your final research paper! :d (Writing about Politics/Research: You will write a six-page essay based on one of five provided politics-related topics. As usual, you will support your thesis with specifics from at least five secondary sources of a good variety. You will incorporate summaries, paraphrases, and quotations, and you will use correct MLA style text notes and works cited page.)
— Pedicure… I desperately need one. I’m told if I pray I cannot wear nail polish. I’m still not convinced…I need to fully look into the why! but getting a pedicure doesn’t necessarily have to involve painting my toenails.
— Cleaning out my drawers … thinking about this gives me a massive headache. I have this problem (really, it is a problem!) of hanging on to every single receipt, every single stub, every single piece of paper….everything! I have papers that I wrote when I was in 6th grade! I have boarding passes dating back to ever since I started flying, tickets, cards, etc. I think what I should do is trash everything without even giving it a second glance!
— Re-arranging my bedroom… that’s a cool project!
— Running … it feels great; sometimes I try to squeeze it in my day by running from the train station to my car after work!:d
— Quitting my occasional cigarette or two a day … I love it after a good meal! but I had a deep thoughts moment yesterday….so deep that I haven’t had a cigarette since.
— Cooking dinner … I LOVE to cook and find great pleasure in the whole process…It’s just there is no time!!
— Starting that thing I’ve been wanting to start for a while now… I need to ASAP! ‘cuz it hurts!
