Always, with a Smile..

Through endless demands and vulgar curses and even when you feel your strongest desire to strangle your customer, client, co-worker, always remember that a smile can come a long long long way… ask Melina Salazar … one of her cantankerous customers left her $50,000 and a car… She had always made sure his food was as hot as he wanted, even if it meant he burned his mouth. And she smiled through his demands and curses. The 89-year-old Walter “Buck” Swords obviously appreciated it![source] …

Lilian, remember that next time one of your own cantankerous customers walks into your office … you never know, maybe he or she will reward you as their beneficiary! And let’s always remember that: In a dangerous world where hatred and terror are real threats requiring constant vigilance, don’t forget the power of a smile and some shared laughter. The hatred and terror divide us. The smiles and laughter bind us. And if you think that’s too naive a thought at too dangerous a time, then you have my sympathy. ~ Jim Axelrod, CBS News…

Wishing everyone - everywhere a 2008 full of joy, peace, laugher and smiles!:)

Israel, Humor, & ‘Democracy’

I read about Arab Work in the Chicago Tribune over a week ago and thought it was quite interesting …comedy almost always seems to have its effective way of bringing serious issues to light lightly…and so Sitcom turns lens on Israeli Arabs…

via Digital JournalsArab Work is a sitcom about an Arab Israeli family who is struggling to trying to fit in Israeli Society…The main character is Amjad Alayan, an Arab Israeli journalist who is trying to desperately fit in his Jewish surroundings.

Sayed Kashua says, “This is a first: Arabs on prime-time commercial TV who are not terrorists,” he said. “I want to make people laugh, to let viewers connect with the characters instead of preaching about discrimination and occupation. The message has to be subtle, more subconscious than conscious, and it has to be padded with a lot of humor. Otherwise it won’t work.”

“The series was written by Sayed Kashua, 32, a popular Israeli Arab columnist and author who writes in Hebrew on the identity crisis of Arabs in the Jewish state. His first two novels were best sellers, translated into several languages. Satire is Kashua’s main tool in the sitcom, ironically titled “Arab Work,” an Israeli slur used to describe shoddy workmanship. The show, where the characters speak an Arabic peppered with Hebrew idioms, lampoons stereotypes of Israel’s Arabs but also their attempts to blend in with their Jewish surroundings.” (Read on …)

Pressing Issues…

- My nose feels like it’s about to fall off from excessive tissue use… I have a cold… I hate this feeling…

- I HATE shopping…that’s why I do most of my shopping online…but when urgency calls for it, I have to drag myself to the mall, like today. Early this morning, I stepped in my slacks and ripped the entire bottom of it …so I used my lunch time to shop for a pair of Pants. The Limited has buy one get $25.00 off the second pair. Sweaters are 50% off, too! talk about great deals…makes shopping a bit bearable…

- I didn’t know John Mayer had a childhood fantasy for Ricki Lake! She is flattered… Awww…wouldn’t you be?!

- I am still undecided as to what phone I should upgrade to…Maybe this should be my reminder…

- My parents are getting ready to leave to Palestine …they’ll be there for a good year most likely… which means, no more home cooked meals….

- I received a Statement for one of my bank accounts…I have a negative balance. I have no idea how that happened especially that this account is supposed to be my ’savings’ account! Chase has some explaining to do… otherwise, I am closing my account and going elsewhere!

That’s it for now …

What’s the point of a Wedding Reception/Party?

Isn’t a very important part of this very intimate night is so we can enjoy each other and our day with our family and closest friends? How will you enjoy by being on two separate sides?!
If you choose to have a separate wedding, I guess it’s your right; it’s your night after all…it just doesn’t make sense to me what-so-ever…Religious reasons?! okay, I may be a bit dense, but it still doesn’t make sense…Once you start going to ’separate’ restaurants or ’separate’ malls, it may start making a bit more sense then!

I HATE separate weddings…

A dose of reality…

Some sick pathetic psycho decides to go suicidal in a Shopping Mall in Nebraska killing 8 and injuring 5 then taking his own life away…Good riddance…but why take away innocent lives before taking away your own?! The gunman shot one man in the head from a third-floor balcony and others at point-blank range, witnesses said. Some of the victims were shot inside Von Maur department store as they lined up to get their purchased Christmas gifts wrapped…

For these people, what was meant to be a typical shopping trip, ended up being their end. How depressing! How Sad!

How outrageous!
Schools, Universities, even homes and workplaces, and now malls are no longer safe … one has no clue where and when the next psycho is going to take out his sick outrage on innocent random people…

Wishing the 5 injured a speedy recovery…and may the 8 victims rest in peace and may God help their families cope with such loss particularly during this Holiday Season.
