It is extremely heart breaking to see a skin-in-bone bloating child dying of hunger in front of his equally hungry mother. Many of these images came out of the misery horn of Africa: the land of drought, hunger, disease, war and atrocities against humanity. Yet what is striking about this too is why would a mother still bring children into this miserable world.
Some may think I am insensitive. I believe that we should protect people especially children against all harm. However, It is also our responsibility to stop this nonsense of overbreeding without caring for the born. An example is the Sahel region of Africa which is going through a relentless and unprecedented drought over the past 30 years that have effectively turned millions of people into refugees in their own homeland looking for food and water. Yet, the irony is that the Sahel has one of the highest birth and mortality rates in the world and has one of the fastest growing population in the world. I.e. many children are dying, yet more are born to face the world of humiliation and misery. We should help these people understand that they have to liberate themselves from this crazy obsession of having more children. One key to this is education of women to get them into the workforce and keeping them away from home, and bedrooms.
